Tuesday starts with downpours in much of England and Wales. Wet weather is also affecting parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland. This morning the heaviest rain in the southern half of the UK pushes northeastwards into northern England and southern Scotland. It is expected to lead to localised flooding and travel disruption. Drier conditions follow from the west but more rain pushes into south Wales and south western England.

Temperatures range 15C (59F) in the north east to 20C (68F) in the south. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Unsettled for the rest of the week

Thursday begins wet in much of the country. Brighter conditions return eastwards and they should reach all areas by the middle of the afternoon. In the west heavy showers develop. Windy in the south.

By Friday low pressure will be centred close to northern Scotland. All regions have a mix of sunny intervals and showers with the heaviest ones in the west. There is a possibility of more prolonged spells of rain at times. It remains quite windy.

The unsettled spell continues early next week. Later on there are signs of high pressure having more influence. If that happens the chance of drier and more settled periods will increase.
