Sunday starts with bands of showery rain mainly in central and western parts of the UK. In north western England there are downpours and thunderstorms. Through the day heavy outbreaks of rain move northeastwards and affect much of the country. Localised flooding is likely to lead to some travel disruption. This afternoon brighter conditions return into southern counties but there will be further showers in the south west. North eastern Britain probably remains dry for much of the day.

Temperatures range 18C (64F) in the west to 24C (75F) in the east. See the rain radar for the latest view.

UK winter 2019/20 Update 2 [NEW]

Tomorrow morning showery rain clears from Scotland. To its south brighter spells develop but another band of wet weather pushes into the south west. The rain extends across much of England and Wales during the evening and overnight. Winds also strengthen in the west.

Unsettled outlook

During Tuesday heavy showery rain affects England and Wales. Scotland and Northern Ireland have a mix of sunny spells and showers. Winds could be strong in southern coastal counties.

The showery theme continues on Wednesday. Late in the day another band of persistent rain may push into the west.

The rest of the week looks unsettled and autumnal. A deep area of low pressure becomes centred close to Scotland so all regions have rain and strong winds at times. Temperatures won't be too far off the seasonal norm.
