Outbreaks of rain in the north

The weather remains mixed today with rain in northern counties. During the rest of the week high pressure will be building. It brings increasingly settled and warm conditions. Next week it should be mostly dry but temperatures probably dip for a time and some chilly nights are likely....READ IN FULL

Thursday starts with rain in the north west. Elsewhere it is mainly dry. Through the day outbreaks of rain spread southeastwards across the northern half of the country. Brighter conditions return to much of Scotland and Northern Ireland. Thicker cloud could also bring drizzle to Wales and western England. Areas to the south and east remain dry with sunny spells and variable amounts of cloud.

Temperatures range 12C (54F) in the north to 22C (72F) in the south east. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight it becomes mostly dry with clear spells. Later on rain returns to Northern Ireland and western Scotland.

Tomorrow starts with patchy rain in the south. It clears to leave dry conditions, but in the north west showers develop. Pleasantly warm in the south.

Mainly settled in the south

Saturday is looking fine in southern and central regions. In sunny spells it feels warm. The north has more cloud and it will be windy. In the north west outbreaks of rain return and winds strengthen to gale force.

Sunday is expected to be warm and sunny in southern and central areas. Temperatures may reach 25C (77F). In the north it will be more mixed and outbreaks of rain could push eastwards.

Early next week high pressure builds farther north. It keeps things mainly settled but the nights are likely to be chilly with a risk of frost in the north.
