Wet weather affects most of the UK today and it will be cool for mid August. Things improve tomorrow but another area of low pressure brings rain and strong winds on Friday. The weekend is looking showery but there are signs of warmer and more settled conditions in the south next week....READ IN FULL
Wednesday starts wet in much of the country but it is dry in the south east and north east. Through the day outbreaks of rain spread eastwards. They turn heavy at times, particularly across the southern half of Britain. This afternoon showery conditions follow into Northern Ireland as well as central and western Britain. Play in the second Ashes Test Match which starts at Lord's is expected to be disrupted.
Temperatures range from 14C (57F) in the north to 21C (70F) in the south west. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight rain continues in Scotland. Elsewhere it steadily turns drier although scattered showers continue.

Tomorrow will be brighter, however scattered showers bubble up with most of them in northern and eastern England. During the afternoon they pull away eastwards. Temperatures remains low for mid August.

During Friday another batch of wet and windy weather spreads eastwards. The rain becomes heavy and in western counties gales are possible. Across the northern half of the country brighter and showery conditions return through the afternoon. It will be cool again.
The weekend looks rather cool and showery. The most frequent showers are likely to be in the north and west. South eastern counties may have a good deal of dry weather.
Next week starts changeable but high pressure probably builds from the southwest and begins to have more influence. Therefore southern and central counties can expect drier and warmer periods. In the north it remains more mixed as disturbances from the Atlantic continue to bring a risk of rain.
