Heavy showers becoming widespread

The focus remains on unsettled weather during the coming days with all regions having showers or more persistent outbreaks of rain at times. Temperatures generally will be a little below average for the time of year, although in the south east it remains warmer....READ IN FULL

Sunday starts with showers in much of northern and western Britain. Elsewhere it is mainly dry. Through the day showers become more widespread. In northern England and southern Scotland they merge to give longer periods of rain. There will be bright spells too with the best of them in southern and central counties, as well as northern Scotland. It remains blustery but winds will be lighter than yesterday.

Temperatures range from 14C (57F) in the north to 23C (73F) in the south east and East Anglia. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Winter 2019/20 weather [NEW]


Tomorrow the mixed theme continues. Heavy showers bubble-up again with most of them in central and northern areas. In the south the emphasis is on dry and bright periods for much of the time, although in the afternoon the risk of downpours increases. It will be quite cool for mid-August.

Mixed and cool outlook

During Tuesday the showery theme continues. The brightest conditions are likely in the north and east. In the south and west cloud builds and there is a risk of more prolonged outbreaks of rain later in the day. Temperatures remain on the low side. Overnight and through Wednesday a period of wet weather spreads eastwards across the UK. It will be windy in southern and central counties.

Through the rest of next week it remains unsettled. All regions have showers or longer spells of rain. There will be drier and brighter periods too with the best of them in the south. 

Perseids meteor shower prospects

The Perseids meteor shower peaks on Monday night. At this stage the prospects are reasonably hopeful. Showers during the day should fade away to leave clear spells.
