A deep area of low pressure moving up from southwest will bring unseasonable weather during the next 48 hours. Heavy rain and strong winds are expected in much of the UK. Gales are likely in southern and central regions on Saturday. The longer term outlook is for unsettled and rather cool conditions....READ IN FULL
Thursday starts mainly dry. Through the day showers develop across northern Britain and a few of them could be heavy this afternoon. Southern and central regions will be fine this morning but cloud builds from the southwest. This afternoon outbreaks of rain spread into southwestern England and southern Wales.
Temperatures range from 16C (61F) in the far north to 24C (75F) in the south east. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight wet and windy weather spreads northeastwards across much of the country. The rain becomes heavy but by the morning clearer conditions should return to Wales and the south west. Northern Scotland remains mainly dry.

Winter 2019/20 weather [NEW]
Tomorrow the rain continues to push northeastwards. By the the end of the morning it should have turned brighter in much of the country but it remains wet in Scotland. Across central and western regions showers become widespread and during the afternoon they spread eastwards. There will be sunny spells too with the warmest conditions in East Anglia and the south east. It will be windy.

Showers continue on Saturday with the heaviest ones in central and northern regions. It remains very windy with gales in parts of England and Wales. Gusts in coastal counties of Wales and south west England could exceed 50mph. Temperatures will be on the low side for mid August.
Further heavy showery rain affects parts of northern Britain on Sunday. Southern and central areas should be drier and less windy.
Next week the unsettled theme continues. All regions have showers or longer spells of rain. Temperatures are likely to be on the low side for mid August and there is a risk of it becoming very windy at times.
