Showers mostly in the north today

Showery conditions continue today with the warmest and brightest spells in the south. Tomorrow a deep area of low pressure, which will bring a period of unseasonable weather, approaches from the southwest. Heavy rain spreads northeastwards through Thursday night and Friday. It also becomes very windy with gales in southern and central Britain on Saturday....READ IN FULL

Wednesday starts with showers in northern and western areas. Through the day a few spread across central and eastern England but the most frequent ones will be in the north. In Scotland heavy and more persistent outbreaks of rain are likely. Southern and central regions have the driest and sunniest conditions.

Temperatures range from 16C (61F) in the north west to 24C (75F) in the south east. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tomorrow scattered showers develop in the north. Southern and central regions have a dry and bright start but cloud steadily builds from the southwest. Through the afternoon outbreaks of rain push into the south western peninsula and southern coastal counties. Overnight wet and windy weather spreads northeastwards across much of the country.

Unseasonable weather

By early Friday wet weather reaches northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. A drier interlude follows and warm sunny spells develop in the south east and East Anglia. In central and western regions showers become widespread. It will be very windy. 

Showery conditions continue on Saturday. It remains very windy with gales in parts of England and Wales. Gusts in coastal counties of Wales and south west England could exceed 50mph. Temperatures will be on the low side for mid August.

Further heavy showery rain affects parts of northern Britain on Sunday. Southern and central areas should be drier and less windy than recently.
