Low pressure dominates

During Thursday showers become more scattered. However another deepening low pressure system approaches from the Atlantic and during the second half of the day outbreaks of rain reach south western England and Wales. They move quickly northeastwards overnight and are accompanied by strong winds.

By early Friday wet weather is expected to be affecting Scotland, Northern Ireland and parts of eastern England. Elsewhere a drier interlude follows but through the day showers become heavy and widespread. Southern and central counties have strong winds and near to the south coast gusts of 50mph are possible.

Showery conditions continue on Saturday. It will be windy with the likelihood of gale force gusts in exposed parts of England and Wales. Temperatures stay on the low side for mid August. Further heavy showery rain is likely on Sunday but the details are uncertain at this range.
