The weather this summer is turning out to be very mixed and erratic. After last week's record breaking heat the emphasis now turns to heavy showers and cooler conditions. The first third of August is looking mixed and a coolish northerly flow may develop....READ IN FULL

Monday starts with a band of rain in parts of northern England and Northern Ireland. Parts of the far north are also damp but elsewhere it is mainly dry. Through the day the band of rain moves northwards into Scotland and it becomes showery. To its south there will be sunny spells but this afternoon showery rain pushes into south west England and southern Wales.

Temperatures range from 18C (64F) to 24C (75F). See the rain radar for the latest view.

Autumn 2019 prospects

Tomorrow heavy showers affect much of the UK. They will be thundery in places and cloudbursts bring the possibility of localised flooding. Some bright spells develop too with the best of them possibly in the far south east and north east. Generally it will be quite cool.

Changeable outlook

Through Wednesday heavy showers continue in central and northern Britain. In southern England and Northern Ireland there should be more dry and bright periods, although some showers are possible.

The weather remains changeable on Thursday and Friday with further heavy showers at times. There will be sunny spells too and temperatures climb into the mid 20Cs in the south.

Forecast details for the weekend are uncertain. An area of low pressure centred to the southwest could bring heavy showery rain into southern and central counties. The north probably has a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers.
