Thursday will be a historic day. The July temperature record which stands at 36.7C (98F) is expected to be beaten comfortably. The UK's highest recorded temperature is at 38.5C (101F), set on August 10th 2003 at Brogdale in Kent. Computer models are suggesting it could be under threat. Will it fall?...READ IN FULL

A new UK temperature record is very possible. Computer models show maximum temperatures of between 37C and 40C in central and eastern England today. What could stop it happening is cloudier intervals and scattered showers this afternoon. Based on this morning's data the chance is estimated to be around 40%.

In the north and west showers cloudier skies bring some showery rain. It will be warm but not exceptionally so.

Temperatures range from 23C (73F) in the north west to 38C (100F) in central or eastern England. Locally values may reach 39C (102F) and 40C (104F) is not totally discounted. See the rain radar for the latest view.
