Autumn 2019 prospects

Tomorrow the heat spread northwards. Temperatures could reach 33C (91F) in the south and 27C (81F) in eastern Scotland. The far north west of the UK stays cloudier and damp but elsewhere it will be fine. During the night thunderstorms spread northeastwards and there is the potential for them to be severe. The south east and East Anglia could miss most of them.

New temperature record possible

Wednesday probably starts with thundery rain in the north and east. Sunny conditions follow on and it becomes hot again. Temperatures climb above 30C in central and eastern England.

The heat probably holds on in much of the country during Thursday. If anything temperatures climb higher as low pressure becomes slow moving to the west of the UK and pumps up even more warmth from the south. Some computer models show 37C (99F) being reached. There is a chance of a new UK July record being set, nonetheless there is a lot of uncertainty. Thunderstorms are predicted and if they become widespread before the evening temperatures will be capped at lower levels.

Overnight and through Friday thunderstorms clear eastwards as cooler air returns to all regions. Further showery rain affects the north and west. Central and eastern regions become mainly dry.

The weekend is looking changeable. The dries and warmest spells are expected in the south and east. Showers are more likely in the north and west.
