Sunny spells and heavy showers

[Updated 08:30 19/05/2019]

Shower cloud

Changeable weather continues during the next few days. There will be warm sunny spells but also heavy showers. The Bank Holiday weekend prospects currently look mixed but it is too early to be confident about forecast details....READ IN FULL

Sunday starts with heavy showers in the south eastern corner and patchy rain in the far north west. Elsewhere it is mainly dry. This morning sunny spells develop but showers start to become more widespread. During the afternoon a few heavy ones are likely, however some places avoid them.

Temperatures range from 14C (57F) in the north west to 20C (68F) in the east. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Changeable towards the Bank Holiday

Tuesday sees little change. There will be warm sunny spells but the showers return.

Wednesday looks dry in the southern half of the UK as a ridge of high pressure builds. The north probably has cooler and showery conditions.

The mixed theme continues through Thursday and Friday. There is a risk of wet weather, particularly in the north and east. High pressure may keep south western Britain drier and brighter.

The Bank Holiday weekend prospects are uncertain. At the moment a changeable theme with a chance of showery rain is favoured. Some computer model runs are showing the Azores high pressure having some influence on the UK 's weather. If that happens the south west, and perhaps the south more generally, may turn drier and warmer.
