A mix of sunshine and wintry showers follows behind it into Scotland. Wales and southern England should remain dry and some sunny spells develop.

It will be cool again. Temperatures range from 8C (46F) in Scotland to 13C (55F) in the south. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tomorrow showers becomes more widespread and in places they will be heavy. Temperatures in the south won't be too far off the average but in the north it will be cold enough for snow over high ground.

Arpege forecast chart 2

Meteo France Arpege, rain, 16:00 BST Tue 7th May

Unsettled period mid week

On Wednesday outbreaks of heavy rain spread northeastwards across much of the country, although it may remain brighter and showery in Scotland. It also becomes windy. Brighter conditions could return to the south in the afternoon. In sunny spells it should feel quite warm, however there is the likelihood of thundery showers breaking out.

Thursday and Friday bring a mix of sunny spells and heavy showers. It remains cold in the north but in brighter parts of the south it will feel warmer.

By the start of the weekend a cold northerly air stream is expected to return as low pressure pulls away eastwards. Forecast details are uncertain but high pressure may build in from the west by Sunday to bring drier and brighter conditions.
