Bank Holiday weekend chill

The weather will be mixed in the next few days with all regions having some rain. By Friday a major changes takes place as arctic air plunges southwards. It brings much colder conditions and in the north showers turn wintry. Widespread frosts develop and the chill probably continues through the Bank Holiday weekend....READ IN FULL

Tuesday starts murky in much of the country and there is a band of rain over Northern Ireland. Through the day the rain slowly edges into western Britain and showery conditions return behind it. Elsewhere it remains dry and warm sunny spells develop.

Temperatures range from 11C (52F) in the west to 21C (70F) in the south east. Check the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight outbreaks of rain become more widespread in western Britain but they clear from Northern Ireland. Central and eastern areas stay dry.

Tomorrow showery rain edges eastwards and brighter conditions return to the north west. Southeast England and East Anglia should stay dry and quite warm. Elsewhere it will be cooler.

Late season arctic blast

Showers continue on Thursday. The highest temperatures are likely to be in the south east and East Anglia. Elsewhere it will be on the cool side.

During Friday a dramatic change takes place. Cold arctic air sweeps southwards and showers turn wintry even to low levels in the north. A widespread frost sets in overnight.

On Saturday showery affects central and eastern Britain. In the north it could fall as snow at times, especially over higher ground. Western areas should be dry. It will be cold for the time of year.

The rest of the Bank Holiday weekend looks mixed. Showers probably continue on Sunday and temperatures recover a little. Forecast confidence for Monday is low. Further showers are likely in the north and east but elsewhere it should be mainly dry.
