Meteo France Arpege, temperatures, 16:00 BST Tue 23rd April
During Wednesday a big change takes place. A band of heavy and thundery rain pushes northeastwards, probably reaching Scotland in the afternoon. Showers follow into the south west but it could turn drier in East Anglia and the south east.
Through the rest of the week a trough becomes established over the UK. It leads to an unsettled and cooler period. Heavy rain is expected at times and it could become very windy. Computer models are suggesting the possibility of wind gusts exceeding 50mph quite widely at times. On Friday night and Saturday morning an area of low pressure tracking over the north of the UK could produce wind speeds of 70mph in the Irish Sea.
The unsettled spell is forecast to continue next week. In Scotland it could be cold enough for snow over high ground.
