[Updated 07:30 16/04/2019]

Fair weather

Outbreaks of rain in the west slowly edge eastwards today and fragment. During the next few days it becomes mainly dry and increasingly warm. Good Friday or Saturday should see the highest temperatures of the year so far. However by Easter Sunday more unsettled weather probably starts returning from the northwest....READ IN FULL

Tuesday starts with a band of rain stretching up from the south coast, across Wales, Northern Ireland and into western Scotland. Elsewhere it is dry. Through the day wet weather slowly spread eastwards into central Britain. The outbreaks of rain become light in the south but in the north west they remain heavier. Brighter skies return to the south west and eastern counties remain dry.

Warm as Easter approaches

Thursday and Good Friday bring a lot of fine weather. Temperatures in southern and central Britain are likely to approach a very warm 23C (73F).

The dry, sunny and warm conditions continue in most areas on Saturday. The exception could be the north west where showers are a risk.

Easter Sunday is looking promising in the southern half of the UK, however in the north there is a risk of it turning cooler and wetter. Forecast confidence for Easter Monday is low. The latest guidance from computer models is suggesting more dry and warm weather in much of England and Wales. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and possibly north western England there is a growing risk of rain.

Next week changeable and cooler weather is expected to become established.
