Dry and chilly outlook

Friday brings a lot of sunny weather, although it could turn cloudier in Northern Ireland. An odd shower is possible in eastern England but elsewhere it remains dry. Temperatures remain on the low side for the time of year, especially in the east. Frost returns overnight.

During the weekend a blocking area of high pressure continues to be centred over Scandinavia. An easterly flow on its southern flank pulls colder air across much of the UK. Computer models suggest that Atlantic disturbances will be held at bay but there is a low chance of rain in the south west later on. Elsewhere it will be mostly dry, although scattered wintry showers could feed in from the east.

Next week more changeable weather is expected to gradually return. Temperatures also recover and by the Easter period it could be warm.
