Heavy showery rain in the east

[Updated 08:30 07/04/2019]

Overcast sky

Many places will be dry today but heavy showery rain develops in eastern England and slowly pushes westwards. The next few days bring mixed weather with further rain in the southern half of the UK. By the middle of the week colder air filters southwestwards....READ IN FULL

Sunday starts murky and thicker cloud is bringing drizzle to parts of the north. This morning northern regions remain cloudy, but in the west sunny spells develop. Showers feed into eastern England and during the afternoon they gradually push westwards, possibly reaching the west country and Wales by the evening. Eastern counties become drier again and some warm sunny spells are possible. There is a risk of showers during the Boat Race which takes place on the River Thames in London this afternoon.

Temperatures range from 8C (46F) in Scotland to 18C (64F) in the south. See the rain and precipitation type radar for the latest view.

Cold air returning next week

On Tuesday showers continue to affect the south. Elsewhere it should be dry and bright. Southern counties stay mild but temperatures in central will be lower than recently.

During the second half of the week a blocking area of high pressure remains centred over Scandinavia. An easterly flow on its southern flank continues to cover much of the UK bringing chilly conditions. Nighttime frosts are expected in areas where clear spells develop. A few wintry showers are possible in the north during the days, however it should be mainly dry.

By the weekend milder and wetter weather may start returning to the south west. Elsewhere it probably stays settled and in the east it will be quite cold.
