Dry in much of the UK today

[Updated 07:25 06/04/2019]

Fair weather

Much of the UK has a dry day and in sunny spells it feels pleasant this afternoon. The weather in the coming days will be mixed with showery rain at times. By the middle of next week colder air filters southwestwards and the risk of snow flurries returns to the northeast....READ IN FULL

Saturday starts damp in eastern Scotland and Wales. Elsewhere it is dry with variable amounts of cloud. Through the day outbreaks of rain push westwards across Scotland and possibly into north eastern England. Other parts of the country will be mainly dry and bright, although in the south isolated showers could bubble up. It is looking reasonable for the Aintree Grand National which takes place at 17:15 today.

Temperatures range from 10C (50F) to 14C (57F). See the rain and precipitation type radar for the latest view.

Cold air returning next week

On Monday and Tuesday heavy showery rain continues to be a risk in the southern half of the UK. In heavier bursts a few rumbles of thunder are possible. After a mild or warm start temperatures start to take a dip.

During the middle part of the week colder air filters southeastwards across much of the country. Wintry showers are likely in the north east but elsewhere there should be a good deal of dry and bright weather. Nighttime frosts become widespread. In the southwest it may turn milder and wetter by the weekend.
