[Updated  14:00 01/04/2019]

Snow scene

A band of rain pushes southwards during the next 36 hours. It will be followed by colder and showery conditions. Some of the showers are expected to bring snow to the northern half of the UK and even in the south a few flakes are possible. The changeable conditions are set to last for the rest of the week....READ IN FULL

Monday starts mostly dry and is a frost in places. Sunny spells develop this morning across England and Wales. In the north west cloud builds and showery outbreaks of rain push into Northern Ireland and western Scotland. This afternoon outbreaks of rain become heavier and spread over much of the north and west. Elsewhere it remains fine.

Temperatures range from 7C (45F) in the north to 15C (59F) in the south. See the rain and precipitation type radar for the latest view.

Tomorrow outbreaks of rain steadily clear southeastwards. Showery weather follows and becomes significantly colder. The showers turn wintry and in the north many of them fall as snow even on low ground. Significant accumulations of snow are possible over the hills and mountains.

Colder and showery outlook

It remains cold during Wednesday and Thursday. Wintry showers are expected to be widespread and heavy during the days. There is the potential for snow in central and northern regions and even southern counties could see a few flakes. Clear spells at night lead to the likelihood of frost.

During Friday and the weekend high pressure builds to the north east of the UK. It leads to an easterly flow which would have brought bitterly cold weather a month ago. At this time of the year the reservoir of cold upper level air is rapidly emptying and the air mass to our east is looking relatively mild. Therefore the weather is likely to remain chilly in the east, but in sheltered parts of the west temperatures shouldn't be too bad for early April.
