[Updated  07:30 22/03/2019]

There will be subtle changes to the weather during the next few days as cooler air filters southwards. Showers or longer spells of rain are likely at times in the north but the south remains mainly dry. Nest week high pressure becomes centred over the UK and the settled period goes on. After a cooler start it could become quite warm....READ IN FULL

Friday starts damp in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Elsewhere it is dry with variable amounts of cloud. Through the day more persistent outbreaks of rain push southeastwards across the northern half of the UK. By the late afternoon they reach northern England and Wales. In Scotland and Northern Ireland it turns brighter and showery.

Temperatures range from 9C (48F) in the far north west to 16C (61F) in the south east and East Anglia. See the rain and precipitation type radar for the latest view.

High pressure next week

Sunday is looking dry and bright in southern regions. In the north showery outbreaks of rain push southwards and it will be windy. Temperatures in the south will be lower than in recent days.

Early next week high pressure becomes centred over the UK. It keeps the weather settled and during the days it should feel  pleasant. The nights are likely to be chilly and patchy frost remains a risk. Through the second half of the week the high pressure centre may migrate eastwards into the continent. If that happens temperatures could rise further as a warm south or southwesterly flow develops.
