[Updated  07:35 15/03/2019]

Windy weather

High pressure is expected to build from the southwest and bring more settled weather early next week. Before then things remain very mixed. All of the UK has showers or longer spells of rain and it will often be very windy. In the north there is a risk of snow....READ IN FULL

Friday starts with heavy showers in the north and there are patchy outbreaks of rain in Wales and central England. Through the day northern areas have sunny spells and showers which turn wintry over high ground. Elsewhere it remains mainly overcast, although a few bright spells should develop. Patchy outbreaks of rain affect Wales and possibly southern England.

It stays very windy with gales in places. Temperatures range from 4C (39F) in Scotland to 14C (57F) in the south east. See the rain and precipitation type radar for the latest view.

Tonight another batch of wet and windy weather spreads up from the southwest. By the end of the night it reaches northern England and Northern Ireland with drier conditions following into the south. Severe gales affect the south west and in the north there will be snow in places, especially over high ground. Much of Scotland has a dry night and clear periods lead to a widespread frost.

Buzz

Tomorrow morning rain and hill snow continues in the north and west. It will be very windy in the southern half of the UK and during the afternoon outbreaks of rain push southeastwards. The south eastern corner probably remains drier until the late afternoon or early evening. Cold in the north, mild in the south.

High pressure builds next week

Sunday is looking cold and windy with showers in all regions. Many of the showers turn wintry and fall as snow in the north and over higher ground further south. A widespread frost develops overnight.

Early next week a change takes place as high pressure builds from the southwest. It leads to more settled weather and after a chilly start it becomes warmer for a while. In the north west Atlantic disturbances bring the likelihood of further wet and windy spells.
