A deep area of low pressure named Storm Gareth brings wet and windy weather today. Things improve briefly tomorrow before heavy outbreaks of rain return on Thursday. This weekend it turns colder and showery but next week a transition to drier and warmer conditions is possible....READ IN FULL

Tuesday starts with heavy rain in Wales and northern England. Through the day the band of wet weather pushes southeastwards and it is accompanied by gale force winds. By late afternoon it will be clearing from the south eastern corner. Brighter conditions follow on behind but showers develop and become heavy in the north west. Over high ground they turn to sleet or snow. In the north west of the UK winds strengthen to gale or severe gale force.

Temperatures range from 4C (39F) in Scotland to 10C (50F) in the south. See the rain and precipitation type radar for the latest view.

Buzz

Tomorrow brings a mix of sunshine and showers. Gales are likely early on but winds should gradually ease. Overnight another band of rain pushes southeastwards.

Change possible next week

Thursday brings further heavy rain. During the afternoon brighter and showery conditions probably return to the north but it remains wet in southern and central regions. It will be windy, especially in the southern half of the country. Temperatures stay close to the seasonal average.

During the rest of the week the unsettled theme continues. Friday looks quite mild in the south but through the weekend colder air returns from the northwest. All regions have showers or longer spells of rain and in the north there is a likelihood of snow at times.

Next week a change to a more settled pattern is looking increasingly likely. Temperatures are also expected to rise and in the south it may feel quite warm later on.
