Meteo France Arpege, rain, 12:00 GMT Sat 9th March
On Sunday outbreaks of rain spread northeastwards into northern England and over the hills they turns to snow. Substantial falls are possible and there could be some snow at low levels too. Brighter and showery conditions follow in from the southwest and Scotland probably has a good deal of dry weather.
In the southern half of the UK there is the potential for it to become stormy. Some computer models show wind gusts in the south west exceeding 80mph. Forecast details remain uncertain due to lack of cross model agreement on the development and track of low pressure at this time.
Unsettled and chilly weather continues next week. In the longer term there are signs of it turning more settled and warmer.
