Unsettled start to the spring

[Updated  06:50 01/03/2019]

Daffs in bloom

The meteorological spring starts today. The early part of the new season is looking unsettled with periods of wet and windy weather in all regions. In the south it remains quite mild but temperatures take a dip in the north and there is an increasing chance of snow over high ground....READ IN FULL

Friday starts mainly dry and quite mild. This morning there will be a few light outbreaks of rain but it remains mostly dry and the cloud cover breaks in places. Through the afternoon persistent outbreaks of rain spread into Northern Ireland. The rest of the country stays dry and there should be a reasonable amount of sunshine.

Temperatures range from 9C (48F) in the north to 14C (57F) in the south. See the rain and precipitation type radar for the latest view.

Buzz

Tomorrow another band of wet and very windy weather quickly pushes into the west. Severe gales are possible in exposed parts of the north west. During the second half of the day heavy rain spreads eastwards across all regions, but it will probably be patchier in south eastern England. The north has quite a chilly day and over the Scottish mountains snow is possible. The south remains mild.

Unsettled weather continues

Sunday is looking wet in southern and central regions. It will also be windy with gales in exposed western locations. The outbreaks of rain possibly reach Northern Ireland and northern England, and over the Pennines they may turn to snow. Scotland has sunny spells and wintry showers. It stays mild in the south but the north will be rather cold.

The unsettled theme continues next week. All regions have rain at times and it will be cold enough for snow over high ground in the north.
