New February record set

[Updated 14:45 25/02/2019]

Red sky

The unseasonably warm period continues for the next few days as the UK remains under a southwesterly air stream. Most areas will be dry and bright but the north west has more cloud. During the second half of the week a transition to more changeable weather is expected to take place....READ IN FULL

Monday starts mainly dry but there is some patchy rain in the far north. Clear spells overnight in southern and central regions have led to fog and frost forming in places. This morning the fog lifts and sunny periods develop in England, Wales and eastern Scotland. In the north west it remains cloudier and patchy rain continues in the far north.

Temperatures rise quickly and widely range from 13C (55F) to 19C (66F) this afternoon. Locally they could be a little higher. See the rain and precipitation type radar for the latest view.

February temperature record smashed

A new high UK February temperature has been set with 20.3C (68.54F) being recorded at Trawsgoed, Ceredigion, Wales. It easily beats the 19.7C (67.46F) reached in Greenwich, London in 1988.

Buzz

Tomorrow little changes and very warm upper level air continues to bathe the country. Temperatures will be similar to today's and again the February temperature record could be challenged. Sunny periods develop widely with overcast conditions mainly restricted to the far north west.

Change later in the week

The meteorological winter comes to an ends on Wednesday. It will be ending with fine and warm weather in most of the country. Temperatures again widely reach the mid teens Celsius.

During the second half of the week things begin to change. High pressure declines and weather fronts from the Atlantic begin to make inroads. By the weekend a westerly flow returns and all regions have showers or longer spells of rain. Temperatures trend downwards and become close to average in the north. In the south it probably remains quite mild but it will feel a lot cooler than it has done recently.
