Springlike weekend for many

[Updated 07:00 22/02/2019]

Spring blossom

Yesterday Scotland recorded its record February temperature when 18.3C was reached in Aboyne. Little changes in the coming days. High pressure remains centred to the southeast and a southerly flow bathes the UK in unseasonable warmth. Later next week it may begin to turn more unsettled....READ IN FULL

Friday starts with patchy fog in central and eastern areas. In other areas it's overcast and in the north west there is some light rain. This morning fog lifts and across England and Wales sunny spells develop. Northern Ireland and western Scotland remain cloudy through the day and there will be outbreaks of rain at times.

It will another very mild day. Temperatures range from 12C (54F) to 17C (63F) in much of the country. See the rain and precipitation type radar for the latest view.

Buzz

Tomorrow outbreaks of rain push across Northern Ireland and into western Britain. Elsewhere early fog lifts but there will generally be more cloud than today. Despite that some bright spells develop and it becomes very mild again with temperatures into the teens Celsius.

Springlike weather continues

By Sunday another wedge of very warm upper level air pushes northwards over the UK. In Northern Ireland there is a risk of Atlantic disturbances bringing rain later on but elsewhere a dry and very mild day is expected. Sunny spells develop widely with the best of them in the east.

Early next week high pressure stays centred to the southeast of the UK. Atlantic disturbances may bring some rain to the north west, but elsewhere the settled period continues. Winds from a south or southwesterly direction keep it unusually mild with daytime temperatures reaching the teens Celsius widely.

The highest UK February temperature on record is 19.7C (67F). It was recorded in Greenwich, London, in 1998 and there is a chance of it being challenged this week.

During the second half of the week there are signs of a change with pressure falling and weather fronts pushing in from the Atlantic. That suggests an increasing chance of rain and closer to average temperatures.
