Thursday starts dry in much of the country but there is some light rain in central and western areas. There will be a lot of dry weather during the rest of the day but thicker cloud could bring drizzle to the north and north west. Elsewhere it will feel springlike in sunny spells.
It will be exceptionally mild. In northern Wales, north eastern England and north eastern Scotland temperatures could locally approach 19C (66F). See the rain and precipitation type radar for the latest view.

Tonight it remains dry. Clear spells in central and eastern areas allow temperatures to drop quite quickly and fog becomes an issue. Cloudier skies in the west keep it milder.

Tomorrow it's a similar theme. Fog should lift through the morning allowing sunny periods to develop in southern and eastern counties. The north west remains cloudier and patchy outbreaks of rain are expected to develop in the afternoon.
Meteo France Arpege, rain, 16:00 GMT Fri 22nd February
High pressure centred to the southeast of the UK remains in charge of the weather this weekend. Atlantic disturbances may bring some rain to the north west, but elsewhere it stays settled and dry with variable amounts of cloud. Winds continue feed in from a south or southwesterly direction so it stays unusually mild air. Daytime temperatures reach the teens Celsius widely.
The highest UK February temperature on record is 19.7C (67F). It was recorded in Greenwich, London, in 1998 and there is a chance of it being challenged this week.
Springlike conditions continue through the first half of the next week. There are signs of a change in early March with pressure and weather fronts beginning to push in from the Atlantic. That suggests an increasing chance of rain and closer to average temperatures.
