More mixed but still mild

[Updated 07:00 16/02/2019]

Fair weather

High pressure slips southeastwards during the next few days leading to more mixed conditions. Rain is most likely in the north and west with the south and east continuing to have a lot of dry weather. Next week high pressure builds back and there is a possibility of it becoming exceptionally mild....READ IN FULL

Saturday starts dry in most of the UK but there are some light spells of rain in Scotland. It is less cold than recent mornings. The rest of the day brings a good deal of dry weather and some sunny spells, but there will be quite a lot of cloud. In the west and north west it could be thick enough to produce damp conditions.

Winds continue to come from a southerly direction so it stays mild. Temperatures range from 10C (50F) to 14C (54F) this afternoon. See the rain and precipitation type radar for the latest view.

Buzz

Tomorrow a band of rain pushes eastwards across western and central areas. It becomes increasingly fragmented and the east hangs on to dry conditions. Generally it stays mild but temperatures take a dip in the west later on as brighter skies return.

High pressure back next week

Early next week wet and windy weather periods are likely in the north and west. The south may also see some rain but it probably won't amount to much. By Wednesday high pressure begins to build from the south.

During the second half of the week high pressure becomes the dominant feature of the weather. The UK will be on its western flank. Although its exact positioning is uncertain computer models show a very mild south or southwesterly flow developing. If that happens temperatures may start approaching the February record late in the week. It's far from certain though and there is a chance of cooler air feeding in from the continent.
