Springlike Valentine's day for many

[Updated 07:00 14/02/2019]

Fair weather

High pressure keeps the weather settled in much of the UK today and tomorrow. During the weekend the risk of rain becomes more widespread as disturbances from the Atlantic push eastwards. Next week it probably turns settled again and for much of the period the days will be mild....READ IN FULL

Thursday starts with patchy fog and frost in the south. The north is mild and damp. This morning the fog lifts and sunny spells develop in southern and central areas. Temperatures pick up quickly and it should feel pleasant this afternoon. Elsewhere there will be more cloud and in the north it could produce drizzle at times.

Temperatures range from 10C (50F) to 12C (54F) this afternoon. See the rain and precipitation type radar for the latest view.

Buzz

Tomorrow much of the country has dry and bright weather. After a nippy start temperatures climb quickly and a very mild 16C (61F) could be reached in England or Wales. In western Scotland and Northern Ireland cloud builds and winds strengthen. By the evening outbreaks of rain arrive.

More mixed for a time

Saturday's prospects are quite mixed. The north and possibly the west have showery spells of rain. Else it remains dry and bright. It will be mild or very mild.

During Sunday a band of rain pushes in from the west, but central and eastern areas may be dry until the evening. In the west it turns cooler later on as brighter skies return.

Early next week looks mixed. There is a risk of rain, particularly in the north, but the south may continue to have a good deal of dry weather. Temperatures should be close to the seasonal average in the north but the south stays milder.

Through the middle of the week high pressure builds from the south again, so the wet weather becomes increasingly confined to the north west. In the south the days could become very mild but nights remains chilly.
