Wet weather clearing from the south

[Updated 08:30 10/02/2019]

Daffodils

The weather has been unsettled recently and it remains mixed today. In the coming days a major change is expected as high pressure builds eastwards into the continent. It leads to a mild southwesterly flow and temperatures during the second half of the week could nudge up towards 16C (61F)....READ IN FULL

Sunday starts wet in central and western areas. This morning the rain moves southeastwards and over high ground there could be some wet snow mixed in. Brighter conditions follow on behind. Other areas have sunny spells and scattered showers.

In the north of Scotland more persistent outbreaks of rain and snow continue for much of the day. An area of rain also moves into Northern Ireland this afternoon. By the evening it pushes into Wales.

Temperatures range from 3C (36F) in Scotland to 7C (45F) in the south. See the rain and precipitation type radar for the latest view.

Buzz

Tomorrow a ridge of high pressure brings dry weather. There will be sunny periods but in the west cloud steadily builds. After a frosty start temperatures become close to the mid February average in the afternoon.

An early taste of spring

During Tuesday it turns wet and windy in the north west. Southern counties stay mainly dry. Temperatures should be a little above the mid February average.

Through the rest of the week high pressure becomes increasingly dominant. It leads to a good deal of dry weather, although the north west remains under a more changeable Atlantic air stream.

There has been some uncertainty about the exact positioning of the weather systems. It now looks as though a long fetch south or southwesterly flow will develop and bring very mild conditions. Temperatures could reach 16C (61F) during the second half of the week to give an early taste of spring.
