A deep area of low pressure which has been named Storm Erik brings wet and very windy weather today. This weekend the mixed theme continues. The north has showery conditions but in the south more prolonged outbreaks of rain return on Saturday night. Next week it turns more settled....READ IN FULL
Friday starts wet and windy in much of the UK but it is drier in eastern England. This morning a band of persistent rain pushes eastwards across all areas. Winds strengthen with gusts of between 50mph and 60mph in much of the country. In the west brighter skies return but there will be heavy showers and at times they merge together. By early evening the persistent rain should be clearing from the south eastern corner.
Temperatures range from 4C (39F) in Scotland to 12C (54F) in the south. See the rain and precipitation type radar for the latest view.

Tonight heavy showers continue in the north and over the Scottish hills they turn to snow. In Northern Ireland and northern England winds may gust up to around 70mph. Southern and central counties have a blowy night but showers will be more scattered.

Tomorrow heavy showers continue in northern and western Scotland. England and Wales have a mix of scattered showers and sunny spells. Later in the day cloud builds across southern England and Wales. It remains very windy with severe gales in the north.

Overnight, heavy rain pushes northeastwards across southern and central regions. Over the Welsh mountains it turns to snow. There is also a risk of it becoming very windy again in the south but forecast confidence is low. In the north winds should ease.
On Sunday wet weather pushes eastwards across southern and central counties. Over high ground the rain could turn to snow at times. Clearer conditions follow from the west. The north has sunshine and showers.
A ridge of high pressure brings quieter weather on Monday with frost early and late. Scattered wintry showers are possible in the north but much of the country has a fine day.
During Tuesday it turns wet and windy in the north west. Southern counties should be mostly dry.
Through the rest of the week high pressure becomes increasingly dominant. It leads to a good deal of dry and quite mild weather, although the north west remains more changeable.
