Through the last 24 hours parts of the UK have had their first snow of the winter. The cold weather continues today but it will be mainly dry. During tomorrow and Friday milder air pushes in from the west. However, it won't hang around for long and by Saturday colder conditions will be pushing southwards again....READ IN FULL
Wednesday starts with a widespread frost and in parts of the UK there is snow cover. The rest of the day brings a lot of dry weather with variable amounts of cloud. Scattered wintry showers affect coastal counties as well as in central and western Scotland where they become heavier later.
Temperatures widely range from 2C (36F) to 5C (41F), although it will be a little milder in the south western peninsula. See the rain and precipitation type radar for the latest view.

Tonight a band of wintry showers moves southwards across central and eastern Britain. In places a covering of snow is possible, especially over high ground. To the north and south a widespread frost develops.

Tomorrow morning there could be some wintry showers in central and south eastern England. Elsewhere it should be mainly dry and bright. In the afternoon cloud builds in the west and outbreaks of rain push eastwards across Northern Ireland and into western Britain. The rain may be preceded by snow in the north. Eastern areas have another cold day but it becomes milder in the west.

Friday begins with a wedge of milder air over much of the country. There will be outbreaks of rain in the north and some of them spread into southern counties. Temperatures could reach double figures in the west but they remain closer to the late January average in the east.
During Saturday wet weather clears southeastwards to leave all of the UK under a cold northwesterly air stream by the end of the day. Wintry showers feed into the north and west and possibly give accumulations of snow, especially over the hills.
Wintry showers could become quite heavy and widespread on Sunday, especially in the east. Settling snow is a possibility in the north and over higher ground in central and southern counties.
Next week the rather cold and changeable weather continues. All regions have showers and longer spells of wet weather. Snow is possible at times with the greatest risk in the north and over high ground.
