The weather during the coming days will be mixed. It will often be cold but milder conditions probably return for a time during the second half of the week. The chilly air will mainly be coming from a northwesterly direction, therefore it won't be a big freeze and snow is most likely in the north....READ IN FULL
Monday starts mainly dry and frost is quite widespread. This morning patchy outbreaks of rain affect western Scotland but they should fade away. Elsewhere it will be dry and some spells of sunshine develop. During the afternoon winds strengthen in the north west and outbreaks of rain spread across Northern Ireland and into western Scotland. Over the Scottish hills they readily turn to snow.
Temperatures range from 3C (36F) to 5C (41F) in most of the UK but the south west will be a little milder. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight a band of wet and windy weather spreads southeastwards across all areas. The precipitation falls mainly as rain, but in places it turns to sleet and wet snow, especially over high ground. Clearer skies follow but wintry showers feed into the west. Parts of the north and west have a frost by the end of the night.

Buzz
Tomorrow morning the remnants of the rain quickly clear from the south eastern corner. Wintry showers become heavy in the north and west with many of them falling as snow. During the afternoon a more organised band of showers could spread eastwards across southern counties and it may lead give some snow over the Cotswolds and Chilterns. Eastern and north eastern counties have a lot of dry and bright weather. It will be cold.

Further wintry showers are expected on Wednesday. However, they progressively become confined to coastal counties and northern Scotland, where they could be heavy. During the second half of the day cloud builds in western Britain and Northern Ireland. It stays cold.
A change in the weather takes place on Thursday. A band of cloud and rain pushes southeastwards and there could be a little snow on its leading edge. The south and east remain cold but temperatures recover in the north and west.
The details for the rest of the week are uncertain. Friday and Saturday will probably be quite mild in the south. In the north it starts mild but colder air pushes down from the north west and wintry showers return. By Sunday the cold conditions sweep southwards and wintry showers may become widespread.
In the longer term a mainly cold outlook continues to be favoured but milder interludes are possible. Winds often come from a northerly quarter with high pressure centred to the west of the UK. The chance of disruptive snowfall is highest in the north.
