Buzz
Tomorrow an area of low pressure tracks southeastwards from the Iceland area towards continental Europe and a cold front associated with it pushes down across the UK. It will bring outbreaks of rain but they become patchier as they move southwards, and the south west it probably remains dry. In Scotland colder air filters in and showers turn wintry, especially over the hills. It will be windy, especially in the north where gales are likely.
GFS, wind gusts, 15:00 GMT Mon 7th January
Through Tuesday colder and brighter conditions spread southwards. In the north showers turn to sleet or snow, especially over high ground.
During Wednesday and Thursday high pressure builds back from the west so it becomes mainly dry, although initially there could be some wintry showers in eastern coastal counties. After a cold start temperatures begin to recover in the west but the east remains rather cold and nighttime frosts are possible.
For the rest of the week high pressure probably remains centred just to the west of the UK. Spells of wet weather are most likely in the north but occasionally they could spread southwards. Western areas probably become quite mild but in the east temperatures stay closer to the seasonal average.
