On Monday the high pressure which has been sitting over the UK temporarily moves westwards into the Atlantic. That allows an area of low pressure to track from the Iceland area into continental Europe. Weather fronts associated with it push down across the UK, bringing to a period of wet and windy weather. In the north it turns colder.
Through Tuesday colder and brighter conditions spread southwards. In the north showers turn to sleet or snow, especially over high ground.
During Wednesday and Thursday high pressure pushes back in across the UK so it becomes mainly dry. After a cold start temperatures begin to recover but nighttime frosts remain a risk.
The rest of the week could be quite mild. Wet weather is likely in the north and on occasion it could spread southwards.
