Limpet high pressure remains

[Updated 07:10 28/12/2018]

Murky weather

The north has a wet and windy spell during the next 36 hours as an area of low pressure tracks eastwards across northern Scotland. In southern and central areas high pressure keeps it dry. Next week a good deal of quiet and settled weather is expected....READ IN FULL

Friday starts with outbreaks of rain in Scotland but in other areas it is dry. This morning the wet weather may extend into northern England for a time, but it will be clearing eastwards to leave a dry and bright afternoon. Southern and central counties have a dry day and a few bright spells develop.

Temperatures range from 8C (46F) in the south east to 12C (52F) in the west. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Buzz

Tomorrow the rain in the north clears to leave sunny spells and scattered showers. Elsewhere it will be mainly dry but often cloudy. The south has a very mild day but temperatures in the north will be closer to the late December average.

GFS forecast chart 1

GFS, pressure and precipitation, 09:00 GMT Sat 29th December

On Sunday there could be some patchy rain in the north for a time. However, high pressure will be building back from the south, so it should turn increasingly dry. In southern counties some brighter spells are likely and it stays mild.

High pressure holds into 2019

High pressure continues to be centred over the south of the UK for much of the next week. It brings a lot of dry weather to southern and central counties but a southwesterly flow in the north may lead to damp conditions at times. Temperatures in the south east probably dip back down towards the early January average but the north and west stay mild.
