The Christmas period brings a lot of dry and settled weather as high pressure remains centred close to the south of the UK. Changes will be very slow through the rest of the week, although in the north there is a greater risk rain at times. Christmas Day starts mainly dry and and in parts of the east clear spells overnight have led to a frost. In the west it is cloudy and through the day day there is a risk of patchy drizzle. Central and eastern areas should stay dry but they become increasingly cloudy.
Temperatures range from 7C (45F) in the east to 12C (54F) in the west. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight western areas remain damp and more persistent outbreaks of rain spread eastwards over Scotland. Elsewhere it will be dry but cloudy skies are likely to prevent frost returning.

Boxing Day brings further spells of rain to northern and western Scotland. It could also be damp in north western England but other areas have a dry day. There will be a lot of cloud cover but a few brighter spells may develop. It will be mild with some of the high temperatures possibly in eastern Scotland due to a foehn effect.

High pressure remains centred close to the south of the UK in the run-up to the New Year. That means the southern half of the country has a good deal of dry weather but in the north there is a greater risk of rain. After a mild start temperatures probably dip back down towards the seasonal average.
