Most of the UK sees showers or longer periods of rain in the next few days and it remains quite mild. A change takes place next week as high pressure builds from the south. It brings drier weather during the Christmas period but there is uncertainty about the risk of frost and fog....READ IN FULL
Thursday starts with showers in much of the UK but generally it is drier in the east. Through the day some bright spells develop but showers are possible anywhere. The heaviest ones pepper the west and over the Scottish mountains some of them fall as snow.
Temperatures range from 6C (42F) in the far north to 11C (52F) in the south. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight heavy outbreaks of rain push eastwards across southern and central counties. Winds strengthen too and along the south coast gales are possible. The north remains dry and in Scotland a patchy frost is likely.

Tomorrow morning the rain clears from southern and central counties but it continues in northern England. Later in the day it become brighter in the the south but further outbreaks of rain move into Northern Ireland. Through the evening they extend into northern England and possibly southern Scotland. Northern Scotland remains brighter with scattered showers for much of the day.

The weekend brings mixed conditions. On Saturday showers affect the north and west but central and eastern areas remain drier.
During Sunday outbreaks of rain push eastwards across the southern half of the UK. The north probably stays drier and in Scotland there should be a good deal of sunshine.
Next week starts off on a mixed note and all regions have further showers or longer spells of rain. As we head through the Christmas period high pressure builds and increasingly starts to influence the UK's weather. It's exact positioning will determine temperatures and the risk of frost. Computer models are generally showing mild upper level air over the UK but if calm conditions persist it could become quite cold at the surface.
