Flood sign

A period of wet and windy weather pushes eastwards today but it will be very mild. Tuesday starts wet and windy in the the west but the east is dry. Through the day a band of heavy rain spread eastwards, although it probably doesn't reach the southern eastern corner until the evening. It will be very windy with gales or severe gales this morning in exposed western locations. Drier and calmer conditions follow into Northern Ireland and western Britain later on.

Temperatures range from 8C (46F) to 12C (54F). See the rain radar for the latest view.

Mixed for the rest of the week

Thursday brings sunshine and showers to most of the country. More persistent outbreaks of rain are possible in parts of the north and there could be some snow over the Scottish mountains. Temperatures will be close to the seasonal average in the north but the south remains quite mild.

Overnight and through Friday another spell of very wet and windy weather pushes eastwards. Brighter skies return to southern and central regions but the north probably remains wet for much of the day.

During the weekend and early next week the unsettled theme continues in the north. However there are signs of quieter weather developing in southern counties as high pressure builds.
