High pressure cuts off the Atlantic

[Updated 07:10 11/12/2018]

Frosty weather

The weather during the next few days will be quiet as high pressure over Scandinavia blocks the eastwards flow of disturbances. Patchy rain affects the west at times but elsewhere it should be mainly dry. By the weekend things change as the Atlantic steps up a gear and wet weather pushes eastwards across all of the country....READ IN FULL

Tuesday starts dry and there has been a frost in places. This morning sunny periods develop but cloud builds in the west and in the north west some showery rain is likely. Through the afternoon the cloud spills into central counties but southern and eastern England have bright spells.

Temperatures range from a chilly 5C (41F) in the east to 11C (52F) in Northern Ireland and the south west. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Chilly start but then unsettled again

During Thursday outbreaks of rain push into Northern Ireland, Wales and south western England. Over high ground in Wales they could fall as snow. Elsewhere a dry and rather cold day is in prospect.

Through Friday and Saturday more active disturbances begin to move in from the Atlantic. They eventually bring wet and windy weather to all regions. In the north rain could be preceded by a period of snow, especially over high ground. By Sunday drier conditions should have returned but in the west there is a risk of showers.

Next week rather unsettled weather is expected. Temperatures fluctuate around the December average.
