The weather remains unsettled during the coming days with all regions having wet and windy periods. It will often be mild but by the end of the week colder air in the north may begin to push southwards. In the longer term there is a lot of uncertainty, but the TWO winter forecast which was issued at the weekend is suggesting a colder than average season....READ IN FULL
Monday starts dry in much of the UK but an area of heavy rain is affecting Wales. This morning it moves eastwards across southern and central Britain and is accompanied by strong winds. Brighter skies follow on behind it and by mid-afternoon the rain should be clearing from the south eastern corner. Areas to the north have scattered showers and over high ground in Scotland they could fall as snow.

Meteo France Arpege, forecast rain, 11:00 GMT Mon 3rd December
Tonight showers continue in Scotland and Northern Ireland, and at times they will be wintry. Elsewhere clear periods lead to a widespread frost.
Tomorrow there will be further showers in Scotland. Elsewhere it stays mainly dry but cloud progressively builds from the southwest. After the cold start temperatures struggle and it will feel raw.
Overnight and through Wednesday the next area of low pressure steams in from the Atlantic. It brings outbreaks of rain to the south and in the north snow is possible over high ground for a time. The south becomes very mild again.
DWD ICON, forecast pressure and precipitation type, 12:00 GMT Wed 5th December
The unsettled weather is set to continue through the second half of the week. All regions have periods of heavy rain and at times it will become very windy with a risk of gales or severe gales. Over the Scottish mountains further snow is expected.
By the end of the week there is a chance of colder air beginning to push southwards as high pressure forms to the west of the UK. That could be followed by several colder and drier days as the high pressure area moves eastwards into the continent. Some computer models have shown it becoming centred farther north and building strongly. That would lead to the possibility of a longer cold spell, but at the moment it is not considered to be the most likely outcome.
