The TWO winter forecast was issued yesterday. The headline is for a colder than average season with an increased risk of snow, although December is expected to relatively mild. In the short term the weather is in an unsettled mood and all regions have further spells of rain....READ IN FULL
Sunday starts mild, damp and windy in much of the UK but the northern half of Scotland is colder and brighter. Through the day showers push into the west and they become heavy at times. In the north more prolonged outbreaks of rain develop and over the Scottish mountains they turn to snow. England and Wales have a windy day.

Tonight showery outbreaks of rain spread eastwards across much of the UK with drier conditions following from the west for a time. By the end of the night further rain pushes into the south west. Scotland has quite a widespread frost but southern and central Britain remain very mild.
Tomorrow showery outbreaks of rain continue to affect southern and central regions but they steadily clear eastwards. Brighter and colder conditions follow on and in the north a few showers develop.

On Tuesday a ridge of high pressure builds across the UK, leading to a mainly dry and bright day. It will be colder than recently with quite a widespread frost early on.
Overnight and through Wednesday the next area of low pressure steams in from the Atlantic. It brings heavy outbreaks of rain to the south and in the northern half of the UK snow is possible over high ground. The south becomes very mild again.
Through the rest of the week it remains unsettled. All regions have periods of wet weather and over the Scottish mountains further snow is expected.
