Wednesday begins mild, wet and windy across most of the UK and through the day all areas have further rain. The heaviest outbreaks are likely in to be in the north and west with a better chance of dry periods in the east. Gales or severe gales affect much of the country and in western coastal counties gusts of 70mph are possible.

Despite the stormy conditions it will be very milder. Temperatures range between 12C (54F) and 15C (59F) this afternoon. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Changeable outlook

Friday looks showery in the north and west but the south and east should have quite a lot of dry weather. Temperatures dip back down towards the seasonal average.

The weekend is expected to be mixed. The south has showers or longer spells of rain which could be heavy at times. The north has showery conditions and it will be cold enough for snow over high ground in Scotland.

Next week the changeable theme continues. Mild and wet weather in the south on Monday and Tuesday spreads northwards through the middle of the week.  Later on high pressure probably builds from the south increasing the likelihood of a drier period.
