Still quiet but wet, stormy and mild soon

[Updated 07:00 26/11/2018]

Dull weather

The quiet and chilly conditions continue today but it is a case of the calm before the storm. Tomorrow the Atlantic wakes up and weather fronts start pushing eastwards across the UK. They bring heavy outbreaks of rain and strong winds to all regions during the middle part of the week. It also turns a lot milder....READ IN FULL

Monday starts mainly dry in the west but in central and eastern areas there are showers. Through the day showers continue with most of them in the east. Over high ground in Scotland they will be wintry. Eastern areas have a lot of cloud but sunny spells develop widely in the west.

Temperatures range from 4C (39F) in the north to 9C (48F) in the south west. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Winter 2018/19 weather  - update 3

Tonight showers continue in the east. In central, northern and eastern areas clear spells lead to a widespread frost. In the south west cloud builds and by the end of the night outbreaks of rain push in.

Tomorrow a big change in the weather takes place. Wet and windy weather pushes northeastwards across much of the country. Rain will be heavy at times and over high ground in the north it could fall as snow for a time. The rain probably won't reach eastern England until the evening and Scotland may stay brighter and showery.

During Wednesday another band of wet weather spread northeastwards and affects most of the UK. It will be very windy with the likelihood of gales in much of the country. Gusts speeds of 70mph are possible in the west and severe weather could lead to some travel disruption. Temperatures could reach a very mild 15C (59F).

Mixed outlook

Through the second half of the week it remains unsettled. Further rain is expected on Thursday, although it may be drier in the east for a time. Friday looks like bringing blustery showers, but in the east there could be quite a lot of dry weather. Temperatures dip back down towards the seasonal average.

At this stage the weekend is expected to be mixed. Further showers or longer spells of rain are possible in all regions.

Early next week the unsettled theme continues. Later in the period there are signs of it turning drier in the south as high pressure builds.
