Chilly weekend but change on the way

[Updated 07:10 23/11/2018]

Overcast weather

The rather cold weather continues today and through the weekend. Early next week a major change begins to take place as the Atlantic moves up a gear and a deep area of low pressure pushes towards the UK. That will bring wet and windy conditions to all regions, but it also turns much milder....READ IN FULL

Friday starts with showery rain in Scotland, north eastern England and the south west. Elsewhere it is drier but cloudy. Through the day that is pretty much how things stay, although some brighter spells are likely, particularly in the west. Over high ground in the north showers fall as sleet or snow at times.

Temperatures generally range from 4C (39F) to 8C (48F) this afternoon but in the south west it will be milder. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Winter 2018/19 weather  - update 3

Tonight outbreaks of rain affect the south west and they probably extend across southern coastal counties. In the north showers become more scattered and in places clear spells could lead to a frost. The lowest temperatures are likely to be in the north west.

Tomorrow rain remains a risk near the south coast and there could be some quite heavy bursts mixed in. Other areas have a good deal of dry weather but some showers pop up, especially in the east. It will be quite cold and often cloudy.

It's a similar picture on Sunday. Scattered showers continue with most of them in the east. There will be a lot of cloud in much of the country but in Scotland it could be brighter than during recent days.

Change next week

Next week starts on a similar but by Tuesday things begin to change as a deep area of low pressure moves in from the Atlantic. Frontal systems associated with it steadily push across the UK bringing wet and windy weather to all areas. Much milder conditions follow on to all areas by Wednesday.

Through the second half of the week things remain mixed. All areas have wet and windy periods but the south east could be drier at times. It stays mild.
