Wednesday starts cold and showery. During the night the heaviest showers have pushed into northern regions and that is where most of them will be today. Over high ground some of them fall as snow and even at low levels a wintry mix is expected. In central and southern England a good deal of dry weather is likely but in the south west heavy showers develop.
Maximum temperatures range from 4C (39F) to 7C (45F) in most of the UK but in the south west 10C (50F) could be reached. A strong easterly wind in the north makes it feel particularly cold. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Tonight showers become more scattered and clear spells form. It will be very cold with a widespread frost and in sheltered western locations temperatures possibly dip to -5C (23F).
Tomorrow scattered showers continue and in the north east they could be quite heavy. There will be some bright spells too, although in the south west thicker cloud may lead to more persistent spells of rain at times. It stays cold generally but milder air will be pushing into the south west.

Friday brings more wintry showers to Scotland and north eastern England. There is also the risk of wet weather in the south west but elsewhere it should be mainly dry. In the south it will be a little milder than recently but central and northern areas remain cold.
The weekend looks mixed with low pressure centred to the south and high pressure to the north. That leaves the UK under a showery easterly flow. In southern and central areas there is a chance of more prolonged spells of rain at times. It will be quite chilly, although the south west could be milder.
Next week's weather details are uncertain. Rather cold conditions are expected during the first few days but in the longer term it becomes increasingly unsettled.
