Showery for most in the short term

[Updated 08:15 11/11/2018]

Showery weather

Showery conditions continue during the next few days. By the middle of the week high pressure builds over the near continent and drier conditions return as the Atlantic flow is blocked. An unseasonably mild southerly air stream becomes established and temperatures could reach 17C (63F) by Thursday....READ IN FULL

Sunday starts with a band of heavy showery rain affecting much of southern and western Britain. Through the day it steadily pushes northeastwards, reaching Scotland by the afternoon. Sunny spells develop to the south of it but there will be further showers too.

Maximum temperatures range from 8C (48F) in Scotland to 14C (57F) in southern England. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Winter 2018/19 weather  - update 3

Tonight it remains showery in southern and western counties. Elsewhere it should become drier with clear spells.

Tomorrow it's a similar picture. Showers in southern and western areas become widespread and heavy at times. In central and eastern Britain the emphasis is on longer sunny spells and fewer showers. It will be be windy in the west.

During Tuesday the showers become lighter and increasingly confined to western counties. However, through the second half of the day more persistent outbreaks of rain push into Northern Ireland and western Scotland. Central and eastern England remain dry and bright.

Becoming unseasonably mild

By Wednesday a change starts to take place as high pressure over the continent builds and exerts its influence. The northern half of the UK has a wet and windy day, but in the south it stays dry. Very warm upper level air will be pushing northwards and in places temperatures could reach 16C (61F).

Through Thursday and Friday the risk of rain becomes confined to the north west of the UK. Elsewhere it is expected to be mostly dry and very mild. Computer models suggest that temperatures could reach 17C (63F).

By the weekend high pressure begins to build northwards. That could allow cooler air to slowly begin filtering in from the southeast.
