Mixed bag today but stormy tomorrow

[Updated 07:00 08/11/2018]

Stormy weather

The west has rain at times today but central and eastern areas remain mostly dry. Tomorrow a spell of stormy weather pushes eastwards leading to a risk of travel disruption and localised flooding. Showery conditions follow on for the weekend. Next week it becomes more settled as high pressure builds....READ IN FULL

Thursday starts with heavy showery rain in western Britain. Through the day wet weather continues to affect Wales and western England, and it could push into central areas for a while. South west Scotland also has rain this morning but it slowly spreads northeastwards and fades away. The rest of the UK has a mostly dry day with sunny spells in the south east and north west.

Maximum temperatures range from 8C (48F) in Scotland to 13C (55F) in England. See the rain radar for the latest view.

Winter 2018/19 weather  - update 3

Tonight patchy of rain continues in western Britain and Northern Ireland. Central and eastern counties will be mainly dry.

Tomorrow starts with showers in places but it should be mostly dry in central and eastern Britain. As the day progresses heavy outbreaks of rain push into the west and winds strengthen. It becomes very wet and wind gust could approach 70mph in western coastal locations.

During Friday evening the wet and windy conditions push eastwards. By the end of the night they may still be affecting eastern England but elsewhere clearer and showery conditions should have returned. Saturday brings sunny spells and showers to all of the country, with the possibility of more persistent spells of rain in the south west.

Sunday sees more of the same as a deep area of low pressure remains anchored to the northwest of the UK. There is a risk of more persistent rain in the south at times.

High pressure returning next week?

Changeable weather continues early next week but beyond that it looks as though high pressure over the continent will begin to exert its influence. Initially that means drier conditions in the south and east of the UK with the north west remaining quite unsettled. However, the settled weather steadily extends across most of the UK, with the possible exception of the far north west. It becomes very mild under a southerly flow, but fog may be an issue. Later on temperatures probably begin to dip.
