A plunge of Arctic air will bring the UK's first cold snap of the season. Showers are expected to become widespread and in the north they could fall as snow at times, with accumulations over high ground. The early season chill continues on Monday but during the middle part of next week temperatures begin to recover....READ IN FULL
Friday starts with patchy outbreaks of rain in the south and scattered showers in the north. This morning the rain in southern counties clears away to leave sunny spells. Showers become more widespread in the northern half of the UK and in coastal counties. They increasingly turn to snow over northern hills and become wintry at lower levels too. It will be a lot colder than recently and a keen northerly wind adds to the chill.
Temperatures range from 4C (39F) in north western Scotland to 11C (52F) in England. See the rain and lightning radar for the latest view.

Tonight showers continue, however clear spells lead to quite a widespread frost. Temperatures in the north could dip several degrees below freezing point.
Tomorrow will be another cold day with a mix of sunshine and showers. In the north showers fall as snow at times, particularly over high ground where accumulations are possible. In the south there should be a good deal of dry weather but through the second half of the day there is an increasing risk of showers pushing into central and eastern England. The showers will mostly be of rain in southern and central counties but at times they could bring a wintry mix.

The chill continues on Sunday. However, a ridge of high pressure will be toppling in from the north west so showers become increasingly confined to eastern and southern areas.
On Monday it remains cold and an easterly flow is likely to develop as high pressure builds over Scandinavia. Showers could affect eastern counties and there is a chance of rain in the west as weather fronts edge in from the Atlantic. Over the Welsh mountains snow is possible.
GFS, forecast pressure and 500Pa heights, 15:00 GMT Tue 30th October
During Tuesday and Wednesday quite a messy picture develops. Areas of low pressure bring a risk of showers or longer spells of rain to much of the UK and it remains quite cold.
The second half of the week is looking changeable. The wettest periods are likely in the north and west, but all areas could see some rain. High pressure is more likely to influence the weather in the south and east..
The TWO website and back-end app services will be migrating to a new server environment during the next week with the cut over likely to take place this Saturday. The transition means big changes behind the scenes and they could could lead to some service disruption and snagging problems. Once the move is complete we'll have a much more flexible platform that makes it easier to expand and provide new services in the future.
If you would like to join the TWO community please see how to register for the forum. People with all levels of meteorological knowledge are very welcome to apply.
